Terms and Conditions for EcoPrompt

1. Description of Service

EcoPrompt is a browser-based tool designed to estimate and track the environmental impact of AI interactions. By monitoring token usage, model types, and session duration, the extension provides estimated metrics for energy consumption (Wh), carbon emissions (CO₂e), and water usage.

2. Data Collection and Privacy

We prioritize user privacy. The following data policies apply:

• Local Processing: All tracking data is processed locally on your device.
• Sensitive Information: The extension tracks metadata (token counts, model names, timestamps) but does not store the content of your prompts or AI responses unless explicitly opted-in for "Deep Audit" features.
• Anonymized Aggregation: If enabled, anonymized usage statistics may be sent to our servers to improve the accuracy of our global carbon-coefficient benchmarks.

3. Accuracy of Estimates

• Estimates Only: You acknowledge that the carbon, water, and energy metrics provided are estimates based on public research and median data center efficiency (PUE).
• Variable Factors: Actual impact may vary based on real-time grid intensity, specific data center hardware, and server-side optimizations beyond our control.
• Non-Financial Use: This data is for educational and personal tracking purposes and should not be used for official corporate carbon reporting or regulatory filings without independent verification.

4. User Responsibilities

By installing this extension, you agree:

• Not to reverse-engineer the tracking algorithms for commercial resale.
• Not to use the extension to bypass or interfere with the API rate limits of AI providers (e.g., Google, OpenAI, Anthropic).

5. Intellectual Property

The tracking methodology, custom algorithms, and user interface of EcoPrompt are the property of EcoPrompt and are protected by copyright laws.

6. Limitation of Liability

EcoPrompt is provided "as is." We are not liable for any discrepancies between our estimates and actual environmental impacts, nor for any service interruptions caused by updates to third-party AI platforms.

7. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to update these terms as AI energy research evolves. Continued use of the extension constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
